We have all had clients (or prospects) who don’t know what they want, what the purpose of their project is or why they need a freelancer at all. But they have requirements, and a lot of them! Those requirements may be vague or very specific… although out of context. The question is – how do we work with such a freelance client?
Reality Check – Time to Prioritize and Make Some Changes around Here
I am a loyal reader of Ramsey’s blog, The Blog Tyrant, for the great blogging tips and inspiration he brings me. A couple of weeks ago I got his Ultimate Guide How to Start a Blog and Dominate Your Niche – a mind blowing 9K+ words of a blog post! I didn’t read all nine thousand words but the few sections I did read got me so inspired and motivated that I rolled up my sleeves and did a reality check right there and then. I immediately started working on my websites and here’s my report to you – changes are coming, prepare yourself!
Reality check – first order of business: shifting the focus of this blog.
Working with Freelancers – 4 Tips for Clients for Successful Collaboration
Every experienced and successful freelancer has most probably crossed paths with i-know-it-all type of clients. Working with freelancers is not like managing an employee. We, freelancers, don’t like clients who micromanage their team; clients who think they could do the work better than whoever they hired and end up wondering why they hired them at all in the first place (although the freelancer’s work is superb).
Today’s post is for such clients – to help them understand what their attitude and mindset should be, if they want to have a successful and fruitful working relationship with a freelancer.
Value Your Time – How Much Is Your Time Worth?
Sooner or later, everyone realizes time is our most important asset, it is limited and we have to appreciate it and use it as much as we can. If you lose money – you will earn it back or simply make some more. If you waste your time though, you will never ever be able to make up for the time you lost. So today I’d like to share some thoughts – to help you better value your time.
First, let me put something out of the way – this is not about a calculator of some kind.
State of Mind for Freelance Success
Some people get into freelancing with a somewhat negative attitude. Their state of mind follows a line of thinking similar to these:
The financial crisis made my life really tough and being a freelancer is not ideal but I am desperate and ready to work for pennies (that’s what freelancing is, right?)
I am a hard-working highly-qualified professional but nobody wants to hire me, I don’t know why, I don’t know what else they want…
I am super smart but employers never give me a chance, they are stupid like that – not understanding that I am good and they miss on the opportunity to hire me
Some of these sound ridiculous but when looking for freelancers, I have heard every single one of them. Don’t be like that, please. If you truly want to succeed as a freelancer, you must shift your perspective. Choose to be positive for freelance success!
